Import your clients from Google Contacts

Read your client list straight from Google Contacts, see who is new and who is already here, tick who comes in and tag them. Nobody is signed up for marketing.

New, and arriving for every workspace once Google has reviewed it: until then it shows only where it is switched on. Owners and admins import.

  1. Customers → All contacts → Import → Import from Google Contacts (it is also “Bring your clients in” in your starter plan).
  2. Press Continue with Google. In the new tab, sign in with the Google account that holds your clients and allow doTask to see your contacts (read-only). Google may warn that it has not verified doTask yet while its review is open: Advanced, then Go to doTask.
  3. Your contacts open as a list. Each says New, Already here (the same phone or email as a contact you have, with a link to them) or Listed twice (the same phone or email as someone above it in Google). New people are ticked; tick or untick anyone, search, or show one kind at a time.
  4. Choose the tag they get (Google Contacts unless you change it) and whether people already here are updated, then press Import.
  • What comes across: name, email, phone, company and birthday (into the Company and Birthday fields, made for you if you have none). Phones are read with your country’s code when Google has no + on them.
  • Updating someone already here only fills blanks and adds the tag; it never overwrites a name, phone or email you have.
  • Nobody is signed up for marketing emails or WhatsApp: ask them first, as with every import.
  • Large lists are read in full; the import runs 500 people at a time and says how far it got.

What doTask keeps

Only the contacts you import. Google’s access lasts an hour and stays in your browser; doTask never gets lasting access to your contacts. When you finish (or press Cancel and end Google access), the access is forgotten, and doTask also removes itself from your Google account’s third-party access unless that Google account is connected to doTask for something else, such as Google Calendar or your Business Profile. If you stop halfway, the access runs out by itself within the hour; you can also remove doTask at myaccount.google.com → Security → Third-party apps.
