WhatsApp Business API pricing in Malaysia

Meta charges your business for each WhatsApp message it delivers, and the price depends on the message category and the customer's country code. This page lists the rates for Malaysian numbers from October 1, 2026, when Meta starts charging for replies as well as templates. It shows how to work out a monthly bill, and what doTask adds to it: nothing on the messages, only your plan.

How Meta charges

Meta has charged per message since July 1, 2025. You pay only when a message is delivered. The rate depends on the category of the message and the country code of the number you send to, so a message to a +60 number costs the Malaysian rate wherever your business is.

There are four categories that matter for most businesses. The 24-hour window explained covers when each one is used.

  • Marketing: template messages that promote, announce or re-engage. The most expensive category.
  • Utility: template messages about something the customer already started, such as an order update or an appointment reminder.
  • Authentication: template messages that carry a one-time code.
  • Service: free-form replies you send while the customer service window is open. The window opens for 24 hours each time the customer writes to you.

What changes on October 1, 2026

Until September 30, 2026, replies inside the customer service window cost nothing, and so did utility templates sent inside it. From October 1, Meta charges for both. Service replies cost the same as utility messages in each market, and every business phone number gets 1,000 free service messages a month. Unused free messages do not roll over.

Meta also says it will stop delivering service messages past the free 1,000 for any WhatsApp Business account with no payment method. Add a card before the free messages run out.

The Malaysian marketing, utility and authentication rates are the same as on Meta's July 1, 2026 rate card.

Volume discounts for utility and authentication

Utility and authentication messages get cheaper at high volume. Meta counts the messages across all WhatsApp Business accounts in your business portfolio, per market and category, and resets the count each month. Marketing and service messages have no tiers. The tiers for Malaysian numbers are:

Paying in ringgit

Since April 1, 2026, Meta bills in Malaysian ringgit as well as US dollars. The MYR rates are Meta's own published figures, not a conversion made on the day, so your bill does not move with the exchange rate between rate card updates. Meta can update rates up to once a quarter.

How doTask fits

doTask connects your own WhatsApp Business number through Meta's sign-in. The number, the account and the templates stay in your Meta business portfolio. If the number is already on the WhatsApp Business app, you can keep using the app on the same number; Meta calls this Coexistence.

You pay two separate bills. doTask charges for your plan. Meta charges for messages, billed by Meta to your own WhatsApp Business account at Meta's rates. doTask adds nothing to them and never sees your card. Settings → WhatsApp shows whether a payment method is on file and links to Meta's billing page. All plans are on the pricing page.

Ways to keep your bill down

  • Answer inside the window with a normal reply, not a template. It uses your 1,000 free service messages first.
  • Use utility templates for transactional messages. A marketing message to a Malaysian number costs about six times a utility one. Keep promotions out of utility templates, or Meta will recategorize and bill them as marketing.
  • Bring people in through Click to WhatsApp ads or a Facebook Page call-to-action button. Messages you send in the 72-hour free entry point window that follows are free to deliver, templates included.
  • Send marketing only to people who opted in and still read your messages. You pay per delivery, whether or not they act on it.

Worked examples

Three monthly bills at the rates above. Your own numbers will differ; the method is the same.

A clinic sends 500 appointment reminders a month

Reminders are utility templates. 500 × RM 0.0564 = RM 28.20 (500 × USD 0.014 = USD 7.00). Say 150 patients reply and the clinic answers each once: 150 service messages, all inside the 1,000 free a month, so RM 0. Meta's charge is RM 28.20. On the doTask Starter plan (RM 129), the month costs RM 157.20 in total.

A retailer sends two promotions to 2,500 opted-in customers

Two broadcasts to 2,500 people is 5,000 marketing messages. 5,000 × RM 0.3467 = RM 1,733.50 (5,000 × USD 0.086 = USD 430.00). Replies to customer questions come to 1,400 service messages: the first 1,000 are free, and 400 × RM 0.0564 = RM 22.56. Meta's charge is RM 1,756.06. On the doTask Growth plan (RM 299), the month costs RM 2,055.06.

An online store sends 4,000 login codes a month

Login codes are authentication templates. 4,000 × RM 0.0564 = RM 225.60 (4,000 × USD 0.014 = USD 56.00). That is well under the 100,000 a month where the first discount starts, so every code is charged at the list rate.
