Your own sending account

Send your newsletters, broadcasts and automation emails from an Amazon sending account of your own, so your bounce and complaint rates only affect your own sending.

Email

Out of the box, every business on doTask sends its marketing email through doTask’s shared sending account. That is why doTask holds everyone to the same limits: sending pauses for a workspace when more than 5% of its emails bounce, and a send with more than 200 imported addresses nobody has checked is refused. One business’s old list must not damage everybody else’s mail.

A dedicated sending account changes that. Your marketing email goes from a sending account of your own. Your bounce and complaint rates only affect your own sending. doTask makes the account for you at Amazon, the same service that sends the shared mail, and sets it up; there is nothing to sign up for and no second bill. Replies, booking messages and invoices keep going out the way they do today.

Getting one

  1. Add your own domain first, under Settings › Email › Send from your own domain. A dedicated account sends only from your domain.
  2. Under Settings › Email › Sending account, press Request a dedicated sending account. Owners and admins can.
  3. The card shows each step as it happens: Requested, Creating the account, Setting it up, Waiting for Amazon’s approval, Ready. It keeps itself up to date; you can leave the page.
  4. If the card lists DNS records for your domain, add them at your DNS host exactly as shown (Copy puts each one on your clipboard). They let your own account sign your email.
  5. Amazon reviews every new account before it may send to anyone, usually within a day. Until it says yes, your email keeps going out through the shared account, with the shared limits.

What changes once it is ready

  • The 5% bounce pause and the 200-address limit on unchecked imports become warnings. On the review step of a newsletter or broadcast, and when you switch on an automation that would have been held, a box asks you to tick “I understand high bounces can get my sending paused by Amazon”. Tick it and the send goes.
  • When your bounces run high, a bar across the Email pages says so, with Amazon’s figures. An owner or admin can mark it read with I understand; each send still asks for the tick while it lasts.
  • The Email overview, each send’s report and Settings › Email show Amazon’s own figures for your account: its status, your bounce rate and your complaint rate, measured every 15 minutes.
NoteAmazon judges your account on your list. It puts an account under review at a 5% bounce rate or a 0.1% complaint rate, and may pause it at 10% or 0.5%. A paused account sends no marketing email until Amazon lifts it, and doTask cannot make you a second one: that would be getting around Amazon’s own decision. Check your addresses before big sends (Customers › Address checks).
