Profit and loss

A month-by-month statement: revenue, expenses by category, net profit and margin. Past months are actual, this month is what came in so far plus what is still expected, and the months ahead are a forecast.

Sales › Profit and loss shows one column per month, with a chart of revenue, expenses and net profit above it. It needs Sales figures. Choose the months: the last 6 and the next 3, this year (January to December), the last 12, or the last 3 and the next 6.

  • Actual months: revenue is money received (client payments, invoice payments and Checkout sales), the same figures as Sales › Overview; expenses are those recorded under Sales › Expenses, one line per category.
  • This month: what came in so far plus what Expected payments still expects this month. An expense category with nothing recorded yet this month is estimated at its recent average.
  • Forecast months: package renewals, membership periods and invoices due from Expected payments, and each expense category at its average over the last three complete months. Forecast figures are lighter and in italics.
  • Net profit is revenue less expenses; figures in brackets are losses. Net margin is net profit over revenue.

Adjust a client under Expected payments (push them a month, not renewing, another pace or amount) and the forecast here follows. More › Profit and loss (CSV) exports the statement with one column per month, ready for your accountant.
